Mentoring the Vulnerable

Providing tailored support to young people at risk is essential in supporting them to develop self esteem and initiative in order to manage challenges and change effectively. This one-day Mentoring the Vulnerable activity based training course will build on the skills and knowledge obtained in course NEXBECMEN: Becoming a Mentor. This course will provide students with the necessary skills needed to develop specific personal qualities and values that are essential in supporting young people at risk.

At the end of the course, students will be able to:

  • Describe the necessity for understanding diversity in mentoring
  • Display active listening skills
  • Clearly describe the differences between a parent, a mentor and a friend
  • Display knowledge of goal setting and monitoring skills
  • Explain the correct use of confidentiality within a mentoring relationship
  • Display adequate competency, knowledge and skills to begin a mentoring relationship

This course is designed for individuals or organisational staff wishing to develop the necessary advanced skills needed to mentor vulnerable young people at risk.

Students must first complete Course NEXBECMEN: Becoming a Mentor training course before attending this course.
