Becoming A Mentor

Young people at risk of offending or marginalisation through anti social behaviour, require divisionary activities and in many cases, intense support in order to develop life skills that contribute to a successful and positive future. This two-day Becoming a Mentor activity based training course will provide students with the necessary skills to begin to provide solution focused mentoring for young people aged between 7 and 21 years of age.

At the end of the course, students will be able to:

  • Describe the purpose of a mentor or role model
  • Define stereotypical thoughts and actions
  • Display an understanding of young people’s priorities
  • Describe disaffection, marginalisation and its effects
  • Explain the functions of a mentor
  • Display enhanced communication and motivational skills
  • Set correct boundaries with young people
  • Display an increased level of knowledge and competency in supporting young people at risk

This course is designed for individuals or organisational staff wishing to develop the necessary skills to mentor vulnerable young people at risk.

There are no prerequisites for attending this course.
